XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts (27-15) clinched the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League South Division title with a 7-1 victory over Licking County (23-19) on Sunday night at Grady’s Field.
By winning the South Division, the Scouts have secured the second overall seed for the GLCBL Playoffs, and will begin competition on Wednesday, July 26.
Xenia busted out five runs in the home half of the third inning after two lengthy weather delays, getting three straight RBI base hits from Adrian Marquez, Caleb Bloye, and a two-run double from Cary Holloway.
The Scouts expanded their lead by a pair in the fifth inning thanks to back-to-back homers from Evan McDonald and Colt Wolfe, making it a 7-0 game.
Licking County came through with a single run in the top of the sixth inning, but would be unable to get the game any closer.
Scouts’ starter Adrian Peraza picked up his second win of the season with a sparkling performance, tossing seven complete innings and allowing just one earned run.
Xenia will host the second round of the playoffs, as they welcome the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 opening round matchup to Grady’s Field Wednesday night.
