XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts battled back on two different occasions against the Hamilton Joes in GLCBL semi-final action on Friday night, but ultimately fell 5-3 in extra innings at Grady’s Field.
After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, the Scouts cut the lead in half thanks to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by Cary Holloway that brought home Colt Wolfe.
Hamilton tacked on a run in the top of the fifth to push the lead back to two runs, but the game wouldn’t stay that way for long.
Xenia sparked a rally with one out in the fifth when Adrian Marquez walked. John Sharpe followed with a single and then Jeremy Barth came through with an RBI single down the third base line to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the sixth inning, the hustle of Ryan O’Hearn produced another run, when he walked to reach base, stole second, stole third, and came home on a throwing error.
The score remained tied until the 10th when the Joes loaded the bases and plated two runs on an infield single and a walk. Though the Scouts would get two hits in the bottom of the 10th, a double play killed their rally and the season came to a close.
The Xenia Scouts set an AIA Baseball record with 27 regular season wins on its way to the organization’s first Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League south division title.
