Scouts Fall to Undefeated Mariners
Xenia carries tie game into seventh before Grand Lake pulls away
CELINA, Ohio - The Xenia Scouts carried a tied game into the seventh inning Tuesday night, but Grand Lake used a late offensive surge to claim a 8-2 victory at Montgomery Field.
Xenia struck first in the opening inning when Ethan Moore delivered an RBI single to bring Cooper Schutte home. The Scouts then regained the lead in the second inning when Cole Rohlmeier drove in Mayo Fernandez with an RBI single, giving Xenia a 2-1 advantage.
The Mariners answered in the second inning with a run of their own, leading the score to remain deadlocked at 2-2 through the sixth inning. The Mariners then broke through in the seventh and continued to pull away.
Rohlmeier led the Scouts offensively with a two-hit performance and an RBI. Gavin Kent added two hits of his own, while Fernandez, Moore, and Ethan Papalios each added one. Cayden Calloway ended the night with a double.
On the mound, Jaydon Geraci turned in a strong start, allowing two runs over 3.2 innings while striking out two. Ryan Redding then followed with three innings of relief as the Scouts remained tied entering the late innings.
The Scouts face the Grand Lake Mariners again at home on Wednesday.
