Schneider and Drew Homer in Narrow Loss to Mariners
Schneider and Drew combine for two home runs against unbeaten Grand Lake
XENIA, Ohio - The Xenia Scouts carried a two-run lead into the ninth inning Wednesday night, but Grand Lake rallied for three runs in their final at-bat to earn an 8-7 victory at Grady's Field.
The Scouts answered an early Grand Lake run in the second inning when Dawson Cleveland tripled home Gavin Kent before Owen Roether followed with an RBI single to give Xenia a 2-1 advantage. Schneider then extended the lead in the third with a solo home run to left field, pushing the Scouts in front 3-1.
Grand Lake responded with three runs in the fourth inning to reclaim the lead, but Xenia answered once again. A sacrifice fly from Schneider tied the game in the fifth before Cole Rohlmeier delivered an RBI double to put the Scouts back in front, 5-4.
After the Mariners evened the score in the sixth, Drew delivered on of the game's biggest swings, launching a two-run home run to left-center field to give Xenia a 7-5 lead.
The Scouts held the advantage into the ninth inning before Grand Lake pieced together a three-run rally.
Schneider finished with two RBIs, while Drew's sixth-inning homer accounted for two runs. Cleveland added an RBI triple and scored twice, while Rohlmeier and Roether each drove in a run.
On the mound, Luke Scott allowed four runs over four innings, while Riley McCallum delivered two scoreless innings of relief and struck out two. Trey Tipton (0-1) was charged with the loss.
The Scouts return to action Thursday against the Mariners as they continue in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League play.
